Official brand history
The story begins in 1956 with Martin Cohen , a young engineer from the Bronx who discovered his love of Latin music in New York City's jazz clubs. He was so captivated by the sound and energy of these rhythms that he decided to get his own bongos, but this failed due to trade embargoes that made it impossible to import high-quality instruments from Cuba at the time. Without further ado, Cohen used his technical know-how to research and develop his own. The result was soon known as "the best bongos the world had ever seen."
A few years later, in 1964, he founded LATIN PERCUSSION (LP) and began supplying bongos, bells and other instruments to musicians in New York's Latin nightclubs, asking for their advice. This close connection and the exchange of experiences with artists* on the Latin music scene have contributed and still contribute significantly to the success story of the LP brand. Even today, they are an integral part of the company's philosophy: the musicians' requirements come first.
